Lesson 2: God's Plan for History

Updated: Jan 11

Lesson 2, The Story of Everything, Quest Men's Bible Study

God’s plan covers every area of life, but it also tells us a coherent story.

Every story has a beginning, a climax, and an end. This unit will tell the big story of God’s plan for history, from the creation of the universe to the fall of humanity to the cross of Christ and His Second Coming.

  1. Join us at 7:00am in the Parlor at Colonial Baptist Church. (Come little early for coffee and a light breakfast.)

  2. Do you have a health risk related to COVID-19? You can participate via Zoom using THIS LINK.

  3. Immediately following the large group, we break into discussion / prayer groups. If you are not yet in a group, contact Scott Wylie.

  1. In the beginning, God made everything good. Part of that goodness was freedom. Adam and Eve used their freedom to disobey God. What are some of the effects of Adam and Eve's sin that we see today?

  2. In the stories we tell, the hero rises to power and beats the crisis. In God's story, He sends His hero out to die. Read Genesis 3:15. How does this promise foreshadow the Gospel?

  3. The rest of the Bible's story reminds us that we are not the heroes. The real King comes lowly, riding on a donkey, washing feet, feeding the hungry, touching lepers, and sitting with sinners. How did Jesus' ministry differ from the heroes in most of our stories?

  4. Where Adam and Eve failed, Jesus succeeded. Jesus overcame the temptation of the devil (Matthew 4). Read Hebrews 4:15. How does Jesus’s temptation benefit us?

  5. Jesus accepts the blame that Adam and Eve were trying to transfer. Jesus takes our sin and gives us His perfect record of obedience. Read 2 Corinthians 5:21. How does this great exchange make us right with God?

  6. Jesus is the climax of the story that God is telling. All the hopes and dreams we have in this world can be fulfilled in Jesus, whether we achieve our worldly dreams or not. Read Colossians 1:15-20. What difference does it make that Jesus is the center of everything?
